Derek A. Gehring

Derek A. Gehring is an associate in the Charlotte, NC office of Goodman McGuffey LLP. He is a member of the North Carolina workers’ compensation team.

Derek graduated from the Wake Forest University School of Law in 2022, where he was a member of the Pro Bono Honor Society and completed externships with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) and the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy’s Veterans Division.

Since graduating, Derek has practiced law in North Carolina with a focus on workers’ compensation, general civil litigation, and creditors’ rights. His work involves representing clients across a broad range of civil matters, where he combines analytical precision with a practical understanding of client needs and dispute resolution strategies.

Prior to law school, Derek attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and graduated in 2012 with a B.S. in political science.

Originally from North Carolina, Derek returned to the state after years in Illinois and along the East Coast. He now resides in Charlotte with his wife, Yawei, their daughter, Charlotte, and their two dogs, Patience and Ivy. Outside of work, Derek enjoys cooking with his wife, hiking, lifting weights, wargaming, and shooting skeet. He is also an avid supporter of the Bears, Panthers, and Cubs.
