Goodman McGuffey LLP’s founder and CEO, Wade McGuffey, is speaking during the 2014 Southern Association of Workers’ Compensation Administrators (SAWCA) conference the week of November 10th. He is currently Co-Chair or the Administration and Procedures Committee with Honorable Melodie Belcher of Georgia.  He will give a presentation on effective claim resolution through mediation, as well as moderate a panel discussion in the Administration and Procedures Committee on the Process of Change the address how workers’ compensation laws are changed. The panel will consist of Judge Frank McKay, Chairman of the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation, Judge James McCondry from Florida, Honorable Abbie Hudgens, Division Director, Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development and Honorable Michael T. Coan, formerly Chair of the Labor and Industrial Relations Committee of the Georgia House of Representatives and currently Administrator of the Georgia Subsequent Injury Fund.

Wade McGuffey practices in Georgia and Florida from the Atlanta and Orlando Offices.  He also handles matters related to human resources and employment law, as well as commercial and construction contracts.  Wade has been working closely with insurance companies and commercial clients for over 30 years, handling workers’ compensation and all insurance matters, including coverage, employment, professional negligence claims, and general defense litigation.

Wade is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and The Florida Bar; and is active in the Atlanta Bar Association (Director, Workers’ Compensation Section, 1994 to 1996, Secretary/Treasurer 1997, Chair-Elect 1998 & Chair 1999); Defense Research Institute; Georgia Self-Insurer’s Association; Georgia Defense Lawyers Association; Atlanta Claims Association; Society for Human Resource Management and Lawyers Club of Atlanta.  Wade is also a certified mediator. He has spoken to numerous groups on a variety of legal topics including workers’ compensation, disability discrimination, ethics, personnel law and OSHA and is an instructor in the State Board of Workers’ Compensation Certified Workers’ Compensation Program. He is a member of the Chairman’s Advisory Council, Medical Subcommittee, of the State Board of Workers’ Compensation, and was a member of the Courts Task Force of Citizens for Dunwoody.  He is the Vice-Chair of the Ethics Board, City of Dunwoody.  He was the Editor, An Employer’s Guide to Georgia Workers’ Compensation Law, Second Edition, and Employee Leasing: An Employer’s Guide. He is an Honorary Life Member, Young Agents Committee, Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia and has been recognized by Atlanta Magazine as a Super Lawyer multiple times.

He received both his undergraduate degree in 1973 and his law degree (cum laude) in 1976 from the University of Georgia where he was on the Editorial Staff, Georgia Law Review.  He was a Captain, JAGC, U.S. Air Force, 1976-1980.
