Elissa Haynes Appointed Chair of GDLA’ s Amicus Curiae Brief Committee

Elissa Haynes, a partner in Goodman McGuffey’s Atlanta Office, was recently appointed Chair of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association’s Amicus Curiae Brief Committee, along with Vice Chairs Anne Kaufold-Wiggins (Balch & Bingham LLP) and Philip Thompson (Ellis, Painter, Ratterree & Adams LLP). GDLA’s Amicus Curiae Brief Committee is tasked with reviewing amicus requests from GDLA members and choosing to submit briefs on issues that pose particular significance to the defense bar as a whole. Before becoming Chair of the Committee, Elissa authored an Amicus Brief on behalf of GDLA on a case involving an employer’s vicarious liability for an employee’s maintenance of his personal vehicle.  The brief can be accessed by clicking here.

“It is a real honor and testament to our faith in Elissa – the Amicus Committee has been extremely active and successful for the last several years, due mostly to the tireless efforts of the outgoing co-chairs. We expect big things from Elissa, as well” said Peter Muller, a partner in Goodman McGuffey’s Savannah Office and former GDLA President.

Elissa’s civil litigation practice focuses primarily on defending claims involving negligent security/premises liability, religious institution liability, and personal injury. She is involved in all aspects of the litigation process and has served as lead counsel in trial and on appeal. Elissa routinely consults on appellate matters and often begins her involvement at the trial court level to ensure error is preserved for appeal.
