Elissa B. Haynes is a Partner in Goodman McGuffey, LLP’s Atlanta Office where she represents clients in a wide array of liability and appellate matters throughout Georgia. Elissa has experience defending negligent security and other premises liability suits, claims against religious institutions, bodily injury suits, and 42 U.S.C. § 1983 claims in state, federal, and appellate courts.
In May 2018, Elissa was elected Secretary of the State Bar of Georgia’s Young Lawyers Division (“YLD”) for the 2018-2019 Bar year. She is also a graduate of the 2016 YLD Leadership Academy and a past Committee Chair for the YLD Legislative Affairs and Appellate Admissions Committees. Elissa received her J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law (2011) and her B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia (2008) where she graduated cum laude. In law school, Elissa was an active member of the Moot Court Program, winning first place and the award for “Best Oral Argument” at the Tulane Sports Law Competition and later serving on the Executive Moot Court Board.
Elissa is admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, as well as the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Georgia. In addition to her YLD involvement, she is a member of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, Atlanta Bar Association, American Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, and The CLM Alliance. Most recently, in 2019, Elissa was named a Georgia Super Lawyer Rising Star by Atlanta Magazine. Elissa was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia and currently resides in Chamblee.
